Identify Sound Doctrine
Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:1Devotional Series: Conflict with the Whore
Teaching: Conflict With The Whore pt. 4 (WED 2021-02-10) by Pastor Star R Scott
The last days, according to the Scriptures, began two thousand years ago with the inception of the church. The onslaught of Satan against the church, about which the Apostle John spoke so many times in his First Epistle, is the spirit of antichrist that was already in the world at that time. Now, this spirit of antichrist manifests itself from two different areas: it manifests itself from the secular realm and it manifests itself from the ecclesiastical realm (the church realm). He said that antichrists were among us and went out from us because they were not of us; amen? Had they been of us, they would have listened to our doctrine (1 John 2:18‑19).
It’s vital for us in this Last Day to be able to identify sound doctrine, because the Scripture says, “…in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (1 Timothy 4:1). He goes on to say that men will not endure sound doctrine; that is the day in which we live. Men will study the Bible; but will interpret and arrive at “truth” from the deception of their own hearts. Truth is not what you believe it to be: “Thy Word is Truth” whether you believe it or not; amen?
Because of the focus and emphasis on self, today, this Secular Humanist mindset has become established. For decades, this Secular Humanism has been infiltrating the minds and hearts of people to effectively establish what Adam and Eve were seeking for in the Garden of Eden, that they would come to this knowledge, this enlightenment, to where they would be gods. To be gods is defined in that realm as “independent,” an independence and an ascendance, “a rising above others” and the feeding of that pride that was found in Lucifer; because it’s not enough to ascend and receive preeminence, but something else has to happen (and Satan spoke of it as recorded in Isaiah): “I will destroy; I will do away with the Most High.” That is the spirit of antichrist. It’s not just an opposite theology or ideology; it’s not satisfied to run independently and fulfill the lusts of their hearts, but, as it says in Romans 1, to be “…inventors of evil things…who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”
In the midst of that, we find that as man has written God off as dead, and we see in this philosophy, this ideology, this new religion, that it has expressed itself in many ways, such as the religion of Evolution. That is a religion: it flies in the face of science and fact; it’s foolishness; only a fool could believe in Darwinism. But, you see, it has become their religion; it has become their god so they will defend it against all fact. We as Christians don’t have that kind of commitment. Our commitment is not based upon what we want to be true, what we have defended for decades; what we defend is Truth; amen? We champion Truth. But if we don’t focus on Biblical Truth in these last days, we will be deceived. We will be approached by this spirit of antichrist. The main opposition in the first century was from the Judaizers, the supposed covenant people of God who professed to be the stewards of the Word of God. Romans 3:1 says, “What advantage then hath the Jew? … Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.” They boasted that they were the stewards of the Word of God, and were rebuked because their traditions made the Word of God of no effect. That is where the church is today: the traditions of the American “Christian” church have made the Word of God of no effect.
