How Quick Are You to Obey?
Scripture: Psalm 18:44Devotional Series: Conflict with the Whore
Teaching: Conflict With The Whore pt. 4 (WED 2021-02-10) by Pastor Star R Scott
This Word of sound doctrine is the only thing that will make you stand in this hour. Everything you look at, that’s of this world, everything that you lust after, everything you are pressing toward and spending your time and energy for, is vanity and will take you to hell if you don’t fulfill this one commandment: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all of thy heart…” (Matthew 22:37). The one thing I know here and now is this: I do not love God with all of my heart, but I have had it appropriated to me through the redemption of Jesus Christ. I have all the benefits of loving God with all of my heart appropriated to me as I abide in the Vine. But the reason I can make the statement that I don’t love God with all my heart is that I know I still love myself too much, and I hate that; it’s an abomination. We need to look for all the grace that enables us to offer this old man up daily to that cross.
We not only have Satan and false prophets seducing us on every side, every power imaginable—beloved, we are not warring flesh and blood, we are fighting principalities and powers on a daily basis; amen? You will not stand without the full armor of God in place—but, if that is not bad enough, we have sin in our members. And if that is not bad enough, we are self‑deceived because we think we know our own hearts. We will stand up and say, “I know I don’t know my own heart,” then live out our hearts in our next decision because of what we think is right, when the Word of God in black and white says, “This is the way, walk ye in it.” We better find ourselves, more than ever in this Last Day, coming to this Mirror and looking in it and asking, “What does it say I’m doing right now? I am not in any way going to give place to any other thought. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge…” How much are you are rejecting right now of what God has told you to do and you know He has told you to do and you haven’t done it yet? Is it there? I am continually going to the Scripture asking, “Lord, where am I lacking in this area? What can I do that will bring more honor to You? You know, the Lord spoke very clearly in the parable, and drew a conclusion (Matthew 21:28‑31): There were two sons, and one said, “I’m not going and doing that, but ended up obeying. The other said, “Yes, Father; I’m happy to go for you”, but didn’t. Who was justified before God? You see, we have a lot of people giving lip service; but it’s by our fruit that we are known.
We tragically just saw it again. It happens so often: A few young men were in here not long ago, and they were all excited with the ministry. They received the Word with gladness, but as Jesus said in His parable about stony ground, the plants rose up quickly but had no root in themselves. Another aspect is not only the stony ground, but the thorny ground. There is a lot of lip service and not a lot of death, not a lot of obedience. We take God’s Word under consideration when Psalm 18:44 says, “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me…”, then He goes on to say “…the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” As soon as you hear, as soon as you get that revelation, as soon as you can say, “That’s the Word of the Lord,” it’s then that you obey Him. How quick are you to obey? Some of us are still giving consideration to things that God told us to do years ago and it’s a dangerous place to be.
