We’re Getting Vexed
Scripture: 2 Peter 2:4-7Devotional Series: Conflict with the Whore
Teaching: Conflict With The Whore pt. 5 (SUN_AM 2021-02-14) by Pastor Star R Scott
Let God’s Word speak on whatever the subject might be. When we’ve lost the Word, as that foundation of truth, then men can promote anything that they want. There’ll be sin in their midst. These false teachers will bring to them a doctrine that includes covetousness and feigned words, making merchandise of the people. In 2 Peter 2:4-6, God reminds them, For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;” Noah was an example. Sodom and Gomorrah were examples of what ultimately will come if we allow this into our midst, if our pursuit is not godliness and not true holiness. “And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:” (2 Peter 2:7).
We’re getting vexed. Take heed what you hear. What are you listening to? What’s coming through our eye gates with all of our different forms of entertainment? (And Lord knows we don’t need more entertainment.) Vexed, sitting there day by day… Many of us don’t realize the vexation that’s taking place out in the marketplace, men just sitting there day by day and watching the world, the secular realm take control of their lives, establish a new truth, set forth guidelines that ultimately are going to clash with the Scriptures. And the Spirit’s telling us through these very passages, we need to be prepared for this hour, and as this spirit rises, let’s remember Lot’s wife. Let’s remember the vexation that came upon this man as he sat at the gates and involved himself in actually legislating that damnable city, I’m sure, believing he was making a difference. I’m sure he had a testimony. You know why he’s sitting at those gates? It’s because not too long before that, he sat on a hillside and gazed at Sodom and longed to be there. And Abraham said, “You take whatever you want; I’ll take the rest with God.” So, as we’re coming into this hour, these teachers, and their doctrine, are demonic. God is allowing it. God is answering according to their idols.
Father, we come to You in this hour and say, we need You! It’s a time when, more than ever, we need You. As Paul spoke to the Ephesian elders, and said, “They’re already here in your midst to draw you away to themselves—people that will come in and want to cause strife and draw people to themselves, a seditious spirit, lying in wait to deceive. Evil men, seducers, deceiving and being deceived.” If we know that this is the hour, then what manner of persons ought we to be? Brands that need to be plucked from the fire. Father, one thing stands clear: there will be judgment, and there will be those who know You and are in right standing with You who will lose their salvation and find themselves cast into the lake of fire. What type of persons ought we to be? You’ve told us, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” (Jude 20-21). That’s what we ask You for, Father, in this hour. And for that, we’re going to give You all the praise. We’re going to give You all the glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
