God Knows Your Name

Scripture: Isaiah 43:1
Devotional Series: Think It Not Strange
Teaching: Think It Not Strange pt. 1 (WED 2021-07-28) by Pastor Star R Scott

1 Corinthians 10:12 says, “…let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”  That’s a pretty good admonition.  Let’s not allow ourselves to tempt Christ, to murmur, to complain.  Take heed when you think you stand.  Understand this, there’s no temptation taken you but such as is common to man.  But God.  But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you’re able, but with the temptation also makes the way of escape.  Can you say, “Praise God!” for that?  We know the way of escape.  We know the way, this Word that’s a lamp unto our feet.  We know the way, just get quiet and listen.  There’s a still, small voice speaking to you constantly, “This is the way.  Yes, you’re on the right path.  Don’t listen to those seductions.  Don’t listen to those damnable lies.  Don’t listen to that new doctrine, choose the old path.”  He brings that admonition.  And the good news for all of us.  In Isaiah 43, God says, “…Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”

Good news.  God knows your name!  He knows right where you are.  He knows every situation you’re in, in fact, He put you there.  He gave you this promise.  You know the trial you’re in right now?  There’s not a person in this room that’s not in some kind of adversity, trial, temptation, tribulation, persecution, fear, doubt.  Every one of us in this room battles some form of unbelief, of fear.  We battle this flesh of self-will, and self-indulgence, and pride.  Every one of us has this in common, has within ourselves, in me, that is in my flesh, the biblical declaration that there’s nothing good in us that’s outside of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.  So, here we sit and He knows every situation.  He knows every thought.  He knows you’re ready to quit.  Don’t quit!  Get up for the seventh time and finish the course, praise God!  The fear, the accusations.  Stop listening to the lies of the devil, believe the gospel!  You are the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ, accepted in the beloved, no man can snatch you from His hand, praise God!  He has committed to you in marriage as His bride, and He will never forsake you.

What do we do with this pressure and these problems?  You rest!  You boast in them!  We boast in these things, Paul tells us, you boast in them, praise God!  You’re being tempted because God loves you and He’s purifying you and making you as pure gold; hallelujah!  “Well, can’t He hurry up?”  My answer to that would be, can you?  Amen?  Why don’t you hurry up and learn the lesson?  Why don’t you hurry up and stop judging Him and truly count it all joy; amen?  He’s called us by name.  When you pass through the waters, I’ll be with you.  Through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire you will not be burned and neither shall the flame kindle upon you.  For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior.  Hallelujah!  The most intimate times you’ll ever know with our Lord, our Savior, the Lover of your soul, will be in these times of affliction, and trial, and tribulation.
