Every Day of the Year

Scripture: John 3:16
Devotional Series: Emmanuel II
Teaching: Emmanuel pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2022-12-25) by Pastor Star R Scott

During Christmastime, we thank God for that one unspeakable Gift that was given to us.  But let’s stop and think for just a moment.  Because of that Gift, because He came and suffered and died on our behalf, because of Christmas morning, He became the risen Christ, the resurrected Christ.  He has now ascended to the right hand of the Father and ever lives to make intercession for us, praise God!  There’s a Christmas gift for you; amen?

Now, I know none of us are like this, but, if you get disappointed at Christmas and you didn’t get what you really wanted...  You know, Christmas is almost humorous now.  The fact that we have everything we have and yet take this day and spend more money than we need to on gifts that people don’t really need.  I don’t want to, “Bah!  Humbug!” this, but thank God that we don’t just do it one day a year, but our children are encouraged 365 days a year of the lordship of Jesus; amen?  Even with that, let’s realize that Christmas has been so commercialized and remind our kids of the great Gift; amen?  Remind them that "God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him would not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).  That’s what Christmas is about.  God gave.  God gave.  We’ve received the greatest Gift that can ever be given.  Everything else pales.

“Ah, man, Christmas interferes with our commercialism, with our ‘Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.’”  Have you ever had them up in the streets of New York?  They’re horrible.  Just pass that on by if you’re up there.  Start singing “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”  That’ll be a whole lot better.  “I’ll be home for Christmas / If only in my dreams.”  We’re going to be home real soon, hallelujah!  What a celebration that’s going to be!  So, we commemorate by our exchanging of gifts, the great Gift that was given to us.

I would just encourage us:  guard yourself against the world’s definition of who Jesus is.  People still want to see Him as “Baby Jesus” and not the Judge of the universe, the Lord of all; amen?  He's in dominion, not only the head of His church but supreme over all creation.  The day is coming that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He’s Lord, to the glory of God the Father, hallelujah!  That’s what Christmas is to us.  The twenty-third verse of this same chapter says, “
Behold, a virgin”—this virgin, not just a young, espoused woman, but pure, chaste, having never known a man.  That’s not about morality; that’s about purity.  That’s about bringing in another realm of righteous essence: the man Christ Jesus, perfect, without sin; amen?  There had to be for man another identification other than the first Adam.
