The Truth Will Set You Free
Scripture: John 8:32Devotional Series: Preparing for Jesus' Return
Teaching: Preparing For Jesus' Return pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2022-07-03) by Pastor Star R Scott
You’ve heard about it in foreign missions, where Jesus will just show up to a tribal leader or somebody and reveal Himself as to who He was. Numerous times, we’ve heard testimonies from our missionaries who have come across some of these. It’s like, “Who preached to you? Who talked to you?” And they would share the testimony: “This man came, Jesus.”
There was a man who was a gang enforcer in Harlem. At a church meeting, he shared his testimony. He said, “Well, years ago, I was in a gang in Harlem, and I was an enforcer in this gang, and when money needed to be collected or somebody needed to be put right, I was the man. My wife and I worked together as a team, and we sold crack and coke, both of us were drug addicts. If you can think of any wicked or evil thing, we’ve done it. I came in early in the morning, and I laid down and fell asleep and I had a dream. And, in this dream, I heard this voice, and I sat up, and there was this white man on my television. And he was saying something about God wanting to speak to my heart.” He said he was captivated, and he listened some more. The end of the message came, and there was an opportunity to surrender his life. He said, “And I didn’t.” (This was all in the dream) He said, “And I woke up. When I did, I stirred and woke my wife up.” She said, ‘What are you doing up so early?’” And he said, “I had this weird dream.” She said, “Well turn the TV on, and the noise will help put you back to sleep and it’ll soothe you.” So, he turned the TV on, “And God wants to speak to you today”—the same opening words of the dream. And he said, “I sat down, and he said something else. ‘Now, wait a minute, he is going to say this next.’ And he did. ‘And he is going to say this next,’ and he did.” She was like, ‘I didn’t know you were clairvoyant.’ And he said, ‘I’m not. I already heard this message. Listen, he is going to say this next.’” They listened to it, shut it off, and he fell back asleep, and he said the Lord appeared to him in a dream, and said, “This is your last chance. If you don’t bow your knee now, you will die.” Well, that got his attention. He accepted the Lord as his personal savior, won his wife to the Lord, and is now an elder in a little church up in upstate New York.
He knew he couldn’t keep doing what he was doing, but he also couldn't get out of that gang. So, he went then, and he said, “OK guys, you’re not going to believe this, but let me tell you what happened.” He said, “I gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ. He is my personal savior. I’m not going to go out and say anything about you, this operation, etcetera, but I’m asking you to let me go live this new life. Now whatever you got to do, do it. I’m ready. I have no fears. It’s your decision.” And, interestingly enough, one of the guys said, “What are you doing listening to a white preacher?” Another guy said, “Who was this?” He said, “It was Jimmy Swaggart,” and that other guy said, “He tells the truth. That man tells the truth. You go on and live your life.” And they let him go, and he went on from there.
People know the truth when they hear it. They may not like it. They might not like the vessel it comes through, but you’ll know the truth and the truth will set you free; amen? So, I want to encourage us: God’s gone before us. He’s making a way. He’s preparing hearts. If we don’t get there, He will. Can you say, “Praise God”? These kinds of miracles are going on around the world. They have for generations. Many of them are overseas, where people are not able to hear the gospel.
