Thankful for What He’s Done

Scripture: Matthew 6:11
Devotional Series: Sovereignty and Prayer
Teaching: Sovereignty and Prayer pt. 5 (SUN_AM 2024-12-08) by Pastor Star R Scott

“Who’s my life’s mate?”  We’ve laughed about it before and talked about those different things and everyone one of us has the unseen list, right?  “Oh, I don’t have a list.”  Well, you’re unique.  That’s just the kind way of saying, “You’re lying.”

So, when we being to look, for instance, “What is God’s will for my life concerning my life’s mate?”  God states one thing specifically, we can not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; amen?  Now, I’m just saying all that to say this, here is little sweet thing over here, but she’s not a believer, “But I’m attracted to her and I’m going to continue to fellowship with her and believe that somehow God might convert her and then my will can be done.”  Well, yoking doesn’t just mean getting married.  Yoking means to be intertwined.  Yoking means to be in fellowship.  Yoking means having things in common.  If they’re not born again, your commonness is being based upon temporal things, antichrist things.  It’s sure not the will of God.

“Then, how should I set my priorities?  Because here’s my type.  This is the type I like.  I like this kind of personality.  I like this kind of look.”  Hair color now days, it doesn’t have anything to do with that.  You can have red, white, and blue.  “I’m patriotic, my girl has to have red, white, and blue hair, man.”  They can do it.  Our physical presence, some of us display more presence than others.  Is that a factor?  We could carry it out further but let me just give you this advice, what is your type?  Your type should be the most spiritual person you can find and nothing else matters.  So, what do we pray about?  Do we, like Samson, put our eyes on some woman and say, “Get me that woman”?  Some, like Samson, they got what they wanted.  They got that woman and they will give you a haircut.  What should our prayer be?  What should attract us?  Christlikeness; amen?  As we’re praying about our lives and we’re praying about these things people ask about, “What’s God’s will?”  That’s God’s will.

You want to know what the will of God is?  It’s your sanctification, it’s specifically stated in the Scripture; amen?  Many of us don’t want to pray the will of God, but in His model prayer He comes and tells us on the great teaching there on the Sermon on the Mount, “Here’s the whole duty of man, here’s the full summation of everything I’ve taught you: seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all of these other things we’ve spoken to will be added to you through the grace and through the mercy of God.”  You know, God expects us, in that model prayer, even to pray about things that are for us, here in America, especially at this time, not severe needs.  “Give us this day our daily bread.”  We don’t have to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.”  We already have our daily bread.  Our prayer goes like this, “Lord, I thank You (amen?) for what you’ve given me today.”

“Lead me not into temptation, deliver me from my pursuit of evil.”  One of the things we should be praying for the protection of our lives, “Lord, help me keep my eyes open.  Let me be sensitive to the environment that I’m in.  My flesh wants to continue to wander in this way.  Deliver me from the power, the authority, that sin has at work in me at this moment.  I’ve not been victorious over these sins in my life as I would like to be.”  Acknowledge those areas of your life, but don’t glorify them, don’t empower them.  As you’re praying and there is this sin that has you in its grasp and it’s been dominating you more than it should be, we pray and we ask Father, “Lord, lead me not into temptation.  Deliver me from the evil one.  Lead me into the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake.  I acknowledge and repent of this repeated sin, this habitual sin, and it has been overcoming me, but it shall not finish in dominion.”

Isn’t that what Romans 6 is saying?  Then we begin to declare who we are in Jesus Christ.  What rights we have.  Then, we begin to seek the God of lights with Whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning and every good and perfect gift comes from Him, hallelujah!  Prayer is a time for us before God to tell Him, “Lord, I’m not choosing the right things.  I’m giving in too easily to these things.  Deliver me, forgive me.  But I will not, I will never acknowledge that this shall end in dominion.  That power has been broken.  I am the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ.”  We use that time of His presence to reaffirm our position, our desire and the longing to be able to bring forth more fruit that glorifies Him.
