Practice the Presence of God
Scripture: John 14:16Devotional Series: Sovereignty and Prayer
Teaching: Sovereignty and Prayer pt. 6 (SUN_PM 2024-12-08) by Pastor Star R Scott
The Lord is good, and His mercies endure forever. It’s been a good time refreshing ourselves in God’s Word as it pertains to the bold access we have. Aren’t you glad that we don’t have to come and, like dogs, crawl in before the presence of the Lord? We’re His children, heirs and joint heirs with Christ Jesus. Loved of the Father, as Jesus said. As we understand, then, what our privileges are and what our rights are, we can come before the very throne of God with boldness and declare what He’s declared. We come before Him and declare from the bottom of our hearts, “Your Word is truth; Your ways are good.” Amen? So, we’re going to go forth with this great anointing that You’ve given us. From the housetops, we’re going to shout the goodness of God, for we’re a people who cannot do anything but speak of those things which we have seen and heard; amen? We do a lot of talking that’s useless. Let’s talk about the things God has done. We did a teaching not long ago—we’ve done it numerous times—on the tongue and the dangers of our tongue and the gossip and the slander and the negative things that we speak among ourselves. He said, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but speak to that which edifies…” (Ephesians 4:29).
So, what are we supposed to be talking about? The goodness of God, the things that we’ve seen and heard. What’s happening that’s exciting to you right now? We look at things and we get excited. We’re going to remodel the house, we have a grandbaby coming, I just got a raise, and the excitement. The Bible says that out of the heart, what happens? The mouth speaks. Whatever is in your heart in abundance at the time that you’re excited about, you can’t help but tell somebody. Maybe that indicates to us that we’re not as excited about what Jesus has done than we have been at other times in our lives. How can we ever get tired of talking about the love that He showed us while we were yet sinners? How can we ever tire of talking, shouting from the housetops, about what God did for us? “I once was lost, but now I’m found, praise God!” We were no people at all but, now, we’re the people of God. We didn’t seek Him, He sought us. Isn’t it exciting to be able to tell people about it? The Good News, what more do we have to share? How many vain words do we speak in a day, when we should be gushing over. Out of our innermost being should flow rivers of living water; amen? “I can’t help but tell you what God has done!”
I’m not a church kid, I didn’t grow up in church. I didn’t know anything about God, and I grew up just like most others around us in a society that is vile and corrupt. A people that are overwhelmed with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. It’s normative to them. This is one of the things that stood out to me during the election, and it doesn’t have anything to do with party affiliation. It just boggles my mind because my mind has been renewed for so long. People enjoy this, what they’re doing. Their insanity, their lusts. They love to brag on how they got it over on somebody else. They love to vaunt themselves and put themselves forth as something that, when you lay down at night, most of us know that it’s a façade and a lie that we’ve created, because we know our fears. We know our vileness.
