Walk Humbly with God
Scripture: Micah 6:8Devotional Series: Before Honor, Humility
Teaching: Before Honor...Humility pt. 2 (SUN_AM 2023-09-24) by Pastor Star R Scott
Amen. The Lord is good, hallelujah. We’re looking at that subject that is common to all of us, probably the thing that we share most in common, and that’s the fact that every one of us is prideful. Pride is that aspect that dwells within us because of the Adamic nature that’s been transferred to us, that death that Adam experienced that caused him to be isolated from God, having misunderstood who he was because of the seduction of Satan causing him to think that he was something other than what he truly was and that was a creature. Satan lied and said he could become a god. Eve, having believed that and convinced Adam of the same, the two of them were lifted up in their hearts. They were sold that package from Lucifer that their eyes would be open, they would be as gods, and they would be the determiner of good and evil. They would be the ones that would make those choices for their lives, being now independent from God’s fatherhood.
What a sad place to find yourself (amen?) after having walked in the cool of the day with Him in that garden, a communion with Father with no cares. Can you imagine the tranquility and the peace that he must have experienced in those walks with God? All of that was given up for the control, or the illusion of self-control, and the independence from God, now looking to his own wisdom and his own strength to be successful in this life. The Scripture is very clear when it speaks to us of all of the searching of men over the ages of, “What is the purpose of life? Why am I here? What is the true meaning?” The Scripture tells us that the whole duty of man is to fear God; and to keep His commandments. That duty of man that each and every one of us, now having been regenerated, are pursuing with all of our hearts: to be humble before Him and to come back to that place truly as children of God, servants of God, heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ Jesus.
The wise man tells us in Proverbs 26 that a man that’s wise in his own eyes, there is more hope of a fool than of him (verse 12). “There is more hope of a fool than of him.” We were talking of that aspect of the purpose and what God is expecting in each and every one of our lives and in Micah, Chapter 6, verse 8, you can turn over there if you want, but it’s a truth that I think is not only known—each are very aware of the Scripture—but it’s a truth that burns constantly in our hearts. It’s always before us. It’s that thing that is helping us in our pursuit as we “…press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). That’s what we’re living for. That that is our duty, Micah says in the sixth chapter. What is it that the Lord requires of you, “…but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” What does God want you to do? He wants you to walk in this environment, the pursuit of justice. When we talk about justice here, we’re talking about, in the heart and mind of God so often, righteousness. Righteousness and justice work in conjunction with one another in so many different areas—that just life, that righteous life, to walk right with God, to look for the glory of God and the Word of God to be represented in everything that we do and say.
