Teach Us to Pray
Scripture: Luke 11:1Devotional Series: Effectual Fervent Prayer
Teaching: Effectual Fervent Prayer pt. 3 (SUN_AM 2023-04-02) by Pastor Star R Scott
In times of great importance in your lives, do not trust in your own understanding. You may be dealing with lost loved ones, and there is an opportunity to sow a word from the Lord in their minds. In all your ways, say it… Acknowledge His presence. Acknowledge His power and authority. He will direct your path. He will direct your words even to the last days when you stand before authorities, and your life is on the line. He says to take no thought for what you might say. The Lord will give you the words to speak at that moment. You must know God’s presence to live like that. That voice must be preeminent to live like that. There is too much noise. There are too many other voices. This is the way to walk in it. Hallelujah.
Are you hearing His voice? When you were up this morning, preparing to come, gather, and enter into the presence of God, were you hearing that voice? Was He preparing your heart? Was there, if you please, a preparation or pre-revelation of what He might want to say to you today? Have we come to tell God what to do in our lives, or have we come to hear His Spirit say, “This is the way?” Do not lean on your own understanding, acknowledge His presence, and He will direct your path.
We looked at the parable that went on in the teaching concerning the unjust judge. The thing that we saw was the great truth of the parable. We saw it in the question that is asked in the last verse. “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). When He comes, will He find a believing people, a praying people? When He comes, will He find faith upon the earth? “What kind of faith?” It is the faith that He was speaking of there, that you see Him as a loving Father who is going to avenge you speedily, praise God. Do you believe that? When He comes, will He find people believing that it is His will to deliver us speedily? Let me share one thing with you very quickly. Speedily does not always mean soon. When that deliverance comes, it often comes at a time when we are not expecting it. At times, we are just resting in faith. We prayed about this thing fifteen times. We prayed about it twenty times, and—boom.—there it is. He asks, “When I come, will I find a praying people? Will I find people who know My heart?”
Look at Luke, Chapter 11, verse 1. “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray.” Teach us to pray. They were very aware of Him slipping off constantly to pray. I think there are about six verses that spend time revealing Jesus’ prayer life and how He set Himself apart to pray. But we know more. We know that He did not pray only six times. “[If] they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen” (John 21:25). Isn’t that what the Scriptures say? Here is a man full of the Holy Ghost, on whom the Holy Spirit came without any measure whatsoever. As we study the Scriptures, we see He moved proficiently in all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He was Himself the Word of God. How much time did He give to prayer?
