Let God Be True

Scripture: Romans 3:4
Devotional Series: Effectual Fervent Prayer
Teaching: Effectual Fervent Prayer pt. 3 (SUN_AM 2023-04-02) by Pastor Star R Scott

I do not pray for my will.  I do not give God instructions.  I do not tell Him how and when things should be done.  When I pray, I believe that I receive it.  I shall have it whenever God sovereignly reveals it, praise God.  Sovereignty does not negate faith or individual determination.  It affects it.  Sovereignty affects it.  It is sealed.  It is a sure thing that the will of God will be accomplished in His time, whatever will bring Him the most glory.  Do we believe that God deserves all the glory?  Everything should be done to glorify Him and to please Him.  Can we remind ourselves this morning about something that I think we forget sometimes?  God is a person. God loves to be loved.  He is sovereign.  He expects to be obeyed.  He is just.  Nothing unjust will manifest.

There will be no injustice at the end of time.  God will make everything right and just, according to His purposes and His own heart.  We can rest on that.  We can boast about that.  Even though we do not see things manifesting the way that we think they should, that is where the faith aspect appears.  Faith is the substance, the title deed, the trust, the truth, and the reality of things that we hope for; amen?  It is a favorable expectation.  It is the assurance and evidence of things not yet seen.  Faith calls things that are not as though they are.  We speak from the perspective of eternity and agree with God, even though we do not see how it is going to happen.  We do not have a clue how it is going to happen.  Many times, we do not believe, and we cry, “Help my unbelief.”

God’s reproof for unbelief is usually only to those that know better, to those who have had a sufficient revelation.  There are different types of unbelief.  There is unbelief from the lack of understanding or the lack of revelation.  Then there is “the” unbelief.  You know what God is saying is true, and you believe in it, but now you have come to a place where your heart is hardened.  You have become bitter towards God because He has not done it your way.  The Greek word for unbelief is “unpersuadableness.”  You can no longer be persuaded that God is good, just, and right.  “So why should I pray anymore?  I am not praying about that anymore.”  You pray because God said to pray.  You believe God said to believe, and when you are aware that it is not sufficient, you pray, “Help my unbelief.”  “Let God be true, and every man a liar,” including me; amen?

These great promises are given to us.  “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight” (1 John 3:22).  We could go back to general obedience and keeping His commandments.  We could say, “Okay, I am not committing adultery.  I’m not committing fornication.  I don’t have any idols.  Therefore, God is obligated to bless me.”  More specifically, the commandments He is speaking of are commandments or the words that He puts in your heart to believe for an exact situation that will be faced momentarily.  We keep His commandments.  He says, “Get out of the boat.”  What do you do?  You get out of the boat.  It is not just generally keeping the moral laws of God that guarantees our answers to prayer.  It is God knowing our hearts so that when He gives us the commandment, we will obey it.  God knows that you will obey.  He will give you sufficiency, faith, and grace to step out and obey.  We see it in so many areas of our lives.
