Scripture: John 14:2
Devotional Series: Why Tongues
Teaching: Why Tongues? pt. 3 (WED 2023-07-19) by Pastor Star R Scott

Excited about what the Lord is doing in these last days before He comes back for the church.  Much of the church, today, doesn’t believe in the imminent return of the Lord.  And it’s tragic, but this blessed hope, the imminent return of the Lord, many believe in a second coming but not in the rapture of the church.  And this imminent return of the Lord that is so clear in Scripture is usually denied because people are earth dwellers.  They enjoy their life, here, they want to continue their life, here; but the good news is He’s gone to prepare a place for us; amen?  I don’t know about you, but I want out of here.  He’s gone to prepare a place for us and said, “Because I’ve gone and prepared a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2).  Hallelujah.  He’s coming back real soon.  He’s coming back real soon.  “And every man that has that hope in him,” John’s First Epistle says, “will purify himself, even as he is pure” (1 John 3:3).

So, we see that admonition.  This is a day to clean our act up; amen?  This is a day when the church needs to clean herself up a little bit and to separate ourselves from the world’s system.  To not give any place to the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, the lusts of things.  Things, stuff, stuff, things, more things, more stuff, enter in and choke the Word of God out of your lives.  What a treasure this Bible is.  What a treasure.  Stuff kills this.  Too much stuff kills this.  Loving money kills this.  So, we in this day, believing in the imminent return of the Lord, need to continue to see ourselves cleansed in preparation for that trumpet of God.  The trump will sound, the dead in Christ will rise, and those of us that remain will be changed instantaneously, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.  These old, beat-up bodies will be changed into new, glorious, immortal bodies; amen?  And so shall we ever be with the Lord, hallelujah.  Making myself homesick.  Just looking forward to that coming.

But He said, “Until that day comes, I want you to occupy.  You’re going to have to stay here,” and we’re living in what the Bible calls a crooked and perverse generation.  Isn’t that the truth?  The perverseness in this generation, today.  The crookedness, the lack of justice.  The Bible says very clearly that justice has fallen in the streets.  The truth has fallen in the streets.  So, as we’re living in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation, we need to refresh ourselves, and the Bible says lifting up hands that are hanging down and comforting the feeble-minded.  And one of the ways that happens is through the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

So, as we’ve been looking at this aspect of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, that’s one of the ways, in these hours, that we stay refreshed.  The Bible says, “This is the refreshing, praying in the Holy Ghost.”  Amen?  Do you need to be refreshed tonight?  Have you been out there, and this world has just been a pain, today?  We’re out there enduring all of this insanity in our country.  This “woke” mentality that’s evidencing itself in every area of life.  And we’re pilgrims just passing through, here, looking at this and perplexed.  We really can’t even believe it—it’s insanity.  And He said as we go through that that there is a refreshing for us praying in the Holy Ghost.
