Tongues are for a Sign

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 14:22
Devotional Series: Why Tongues
Teaching: Why Tongues? pt. 6 (WED 2023-07-26) by Pastor Star R Scott

Paul says, “Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.  If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?”  We have mentioned it many times.  We are having to…  We do not understand the magnitude of this because we are an orderly church.  For many, many years we have known the Scriptures and been taught the Scriptures.  I think even more importantly than that, we do the Word of God.

Churches today will not stop people.  Some man wanders in…  There are people all over the “Charismaniac” environment.  These people, who are much of the charismatic movement, are the Gnostics of today.  The Word of God is not the foundation and the truth.  It is their experience, their “revelations” in the spirit.  “God led me.”  “God said…”  Most of their meetings have to do with hearing from God through prophets and other methods that “come to me.”  People are getting personal guidance.  They are getting…  Many of the prophecies today come from these self-appointed “prophets.”  They stand up and want to prophesy.  “Oh, God’s going to bless you.  You’re going to be the CEO of your corporation.  You’re never going to be sick another day in your life.  You’re the head and not the tail.”

Well, that is what the Bible says.  But it says a lot more, doesn’t it?  For these people that are so ambitious and have these prophecies, how about humility?  How about the greatest being the servant of all?  How about not wanting to be dominant, in the lead, and in charge of everything all the time?  How about being content in serving where you are, as the least and the uncomely within the body of Christ?  Can you delight in that?  These “prophecies…”  I have seen so many lives affected and even ruined over the years.  People are prophesying over others about whom they should marry.  I have seen that so many times, it is ridiculous.

Through all these churches and these ministries, there is one organization that is putting great emphasis on this today and throughout the world.  They emphasize apostles and prophets.  They even have classes to “learn” how to prophesy.  They come in together, and…  Let us just say that they have ten people sitting over “here,” and then ten people are sitting across from them.  They will say to those ten people, “Okay, stand up and prophesy to the person across from you.”  So, you stand up.  “Thus, sayeth the Lord, God is ordering your steps.  Your business is going to prosper.  You’re going to be blessed in this.  Your body’s going to be healed.”  They begin to prophesy and speak what could appear to be words of knowledge that are so general.  We have talked about the back, right?  “I have a word.  Somebody here’s back is hurting.”  That is not a word of knowledge.  I mean, it was so funny on The 700 Club for years.  Pat Robertson and his partner got on, and they were talking to a million people.  The odds…
