All Things unto Edifying

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 14:26
Devotional Series: Why Tongues
Teaching: Why Tongues? pt. 6 (WED 2023-07-26) by Pastor Star R Scott

When you see somebody that begins to say something along the lines of making things specific like how you got hurt, where you got hurt, and the details of the injury, then, you have a little more confidence in the fact that it is supernatural.  When you read the whole context of these chapters, you cannot say to people, “Now, you stand up and prophesy to them.”  It is by the Spirit; amen?  It is as He wills.  There is the foolishness of this in the church today, and it is so popular.  We do not hear much of it, thankfully, but it is…  People are just eating up all of this.  Prophesy is not for the edification of self.  It is for the edification of the church, the body.  Be very careful when you begin to hear and see these words that people have for somebody else.  We have a Word; We have the Bible.

I have shared this with you before.  I have had people come up to me over the years, and say, “Brother Scott, I have a word for you.”  And I say, “No, thank you.  I’ve got a word.”  “Well, aren’t you afraid you’ll miss something from God?”  Anything they are going to say to me will only be confirmation of what I already know.  You do not get information that is exclusive from what God is already speaking in your spirit and revealing to you through His Word.  It is a confirmation, and then we reconfirm with the surer word of prophecy.  Whatever it is you are sensing, and you believe that God is speaking to you, that is good, and that is scriptural.  God does speak and witness to the inner man.  But it is always confirmed by the surer word of prophecy; amen?

This man who is going to prophesy to me is not going to be the surest thing I am going to hear.  I do not need it.  I do not need you to prophesy to me about my need.  Go to the New Testament.  You will not find that being done.  The only thing that even comes close to resembling it is when Agabus prophesied to Paul.  That particular thing was not revelatory to Paul.  He already knew.  He said that this was what God was leading him to do, and he said, “I’m not only willing to go.  I’m ready to die.”  So, it was not Agabus coming up to him, prophesying, and saying, “Wow.  Really?  Is that what God has for me?  Is that what’s going to happen?”  He already knew it.  Others had even spoken it, it said, in other cities.  God confirmed it when he was shipwrecked, and the angel appeared to him.  He said, “I told you I was sending you to Rome.”

People are putting too much credibility into these different things.  That is not how we are led.  We are not led by prophecies.  We are led by the Holy Spirit bringing witness to our spirit.  As we are the sons of God, abide in Him, and have the benefits of our sonship, then we are open to this revelation of the more sure Word that God reveals to each one of us.  I do not want to bog down here, but that is one of the things that we need to look at in this hour that we live in.

As Paul speaks to it, he says, “How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation.  Let all things be done unto edifying.”  Come prepared; amen?  That is what that half hour is that we have here before service.  We are preparing ourselves.  We are coming with a psalm.  We are coming with a doctrine.  We are coming with an interpretation.  We are ready.  “Here am I, God.  Use me.  I’m ready.  I’m “clearing the mechanism” for this service.  Is there anything You want to reveal to me at this particular time?”
