These Are the Commandments

Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:1
Devotional Series: Benefits of Obedience
Teaching: Benefits of Obedience pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2021-12-12) by Pastor Star R Scott

We must die daily.  That might be a good way to greet one another in the morning.  When you wake up and greet your spouse say, “Hey, you dead yet?  I want to make sure you’re dead before you leave the house.”  And just be able to have our minds set on the fact that we’re not going out to work to make a name for ourselves, to make a buck for ourselves, we’re going out to preach the gospel to every creature, praise God!  That’s keeping His commandments.  His commandment, we want to talk about keeping the commandments.  His commandment is to go into all of the world and preach this gospel; amen?  If we’re not doing that readily, if we’re not boldly sharing this gospel, we’re not keeping His commandments and these blessings can’t come on us.  Oh, you may be getting crumbs but He wants to open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings you cannot contain, hallelujah!

So, as we’re looking at these great truths here in Deuteronomy, that they would fear Me and keep My commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever.  You want to leave an inheritance, leave your children with this heritage: that they had a humble father, an obedient father.  A father with a servant’s heart.  A father who was seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.  A father like Abraham, who gave away all the best stuff to somebody else and just took God.  We’re more concerned with keeping all the best stuff so we can pass it on to our kids.  Leave them God; amen?  Leave them God and the backside of the desert.  Deuteronomy 28 said He’ll bless you going in and coming out, He’ll bless you in the country and in the city.  He’ll bless the fruit of your womb, praise God!  He’ll bless every place you put your feet, if we’ll do it His way and keep His commandments.  “These blessings, the Scripture says, of the Lord, that make rich and add no sorrow with them,” hallelujah!

So, we have this great introduction here in Deuteronomy.  He goes on and rolls into this sixth and seventh chapter.  But we’re very familiar with a number of these principles.  Chapter 6 says, “Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.  Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.  Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.  And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children.

So, we see then that this is primary in our lives.  Do I know that what I am doing is the will of God, that I have His endorsement, that I am walking out His will, His commandments very clearly declared, no ambiguity whatsoever?  Teach them to your children.  And He ends the chapter and says, “And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.  And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.
